Biography
Andrea’s artwork centers on abstract figurative painting that portrays a sense of magical realism. She has been dedicated to artmaking as a doorway into the personal and collective unconscious, and as a means of accessing something larger than our individual selves. She is also known for combining diverse media and bringing together unusual elements to articulate, illuminate and bridge the seeming disparities and complexities of the human spirit.
Andrea has loved drawing and painting since childhood. Growing up in New York City, she attended figure drawing classes at the Art Students League during her high school years. While attending undergraduate school at Goddard College, she created giant-sized puppets and performed with the Bread and Puppet Theater. Upon moving to Northern California in 1972, she furthered her art career at UC Berkeley, Sonoma State University and earned her bachelor’s degree in art from San Francisco State University. After painting public art murals with a group of SF artists, she returned to SFSU to receive her teaching credential in art. She then earned her master’s degree in art therapy at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles. Andrea currently paints at the 1890 Bryant St Artists Studios in San Francisco.
